Robotics Engineering

Recommended: Grades 4-5

In this unit, students will learn that:

  • programming is the act of creating a set of instructions for a machine to run 
  • robots are machines that automatically perform tasks based on its programming
  • all robots are powered by some source of electricity
  • all robots are programmed by humans to perform a specific set of tasks
  • all robots have the ability to respond to their environment
  • robotics engineers use the Engineering Design Process to create robots
  • robotics engineers create robots for different reasons, such as for entertainment, exploration, or work
  • prosthetic limbs are artificial limbs used to regain normal movement
  • prosthetics can be created using different materials
